Street dance is what we mainly see on music videos to Pop music but actually holds a much deeper history. In order to create a lot of the movements in Street and Hip Hop you need to build strength and flexibility and learn a great deal about the ability to move isolated parts of the body with control. The style of Street dance changes constantly as its main purpose is to move to the current music styles out at the time.
Street dance/ Jazz has a history that merges Greek Lyrical Dancing with Jazz movements and centres on the three main principles of Contraction, Expansion and Relaxation. These three core principals are used to any style of music showing the beauty of the body line, and the creative, expressive mind to produce anything from exciting fast and furious character work to deeply emotional pieces.
Musical choices, whilst being current, are always appropriate to the age of the student.
